If you have used a french press before, then you are in for a similar experience when it comes to your coffee selection and grinding when using your Aeropress. Aside from using your favorite freshly roasted beans, the following will help you prepare the best coffee you can.
As with any coffee maker, it is best to use fresh ground coffee in the Aeropress. Because it makes such delicious coffee, it does matter how recently you have ground the beans. If you don’t want to invest in a grinder then make sure to keep your pre-ground coffee beans in the freezer. Doing this keeps the grounds as fresh as possible without having to grind them each time you make coffee.
The size of the grounds contribute to a couple different factors when brewing coffee with the Aerobie Aeropress. First of all changing the ground size can alter the taste of your coffee. Secondly, the pressure required to plunge the Aeropress increases when finer grounds are used. Try different grind sizes in your brewing to see what works best for you. I find that using just below espresso setting for grounds works the best. You could say this is one step below the finest setting.
